London Fashion Week SS11

This month, Jonathan has been lucky enough to attend both London and Paris Fashion Week. From the 17th to 22nd of September, he was in the UKs capital seeing shows, spotting street style and partying in the city. Notes from the first day are below:

I get off at Charing Cross tube stop on Day 1, happy and slightly anxious. I’ve been to London many times before, but this time feels a bit different, more exciting, more relevant. Walking along Strand towards Somerset House, there is a clearly definable shift in style as I head further East. Shoes get higher, hair gets bigger and clothes get more outrageous. The sunglasses are OUT!

London is know for it’s style, but during fashion week (despite LFW being arguably the least respected of all the fashion capitals) the clothing is wilder than ever. I turned the corner to Somerset House and in the least 'fashionable' way, I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. In Glasgow, if I spot someone with an interesting detail on their overcoat I go crazy – but in this microcosm called London Fashion Week, I’m overwhelmed to the point of indecision.

To be honest, the whole affair is very incestuous. Bloggers and photographers are dotted throughout the courtyard photographing each other and the crowds sit back absorbing every inch of design on the passers-by bodies. Although this is quite bizarre and very out of my normal life, I’m loving every second of it.

The week ahead is filled with a lot of walking, a lot of coffee and a lot of camera battery recharges. My first day at fashion week is Saturday - the main attraction, House of Holland's show held in the Old Sorting Office, New Oxford Street. As Henry Holland is the embodiment of frivolous London youth fashion, I know it'll draw a good crowd so I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.

Photos up soon...
